My Nuffnang Days

By Elie - 2:30 AM

Disclaimer: I haven't been a lazy Nuffie, I've just been keeping this in my drafts for a whole month, till the day I remember that I was there and I've left...for a whole month now. It's going to be an extremely long post so bear with me.

As a whole lot of you may have figured, I'm already in my final year of my diploma and there's this compulsory 3 month in-company attachment term that I had to fulfill before I was allowed to take on my finals and graduate. It feels really funny to be writing this today because 6 months ago, I was simply hanging around, wondering if I could ever be accepted into Nuffnang with my sad looking CV. I remember calling into the company and asking how could I possibly get this document sent in; full of hopes and deep prayers that they wouldn't just throw it into the shredder.

I remember the day I got the e-mail from Michelle; or Mimi as we know her; telling me to come in for the interview and the wait that continued about two weeks after the interview. It was hell; because I felt like I blew the interview, probably by being too much a waitress or a promoter rather than a mass communications student. Then it happened, the one e-mail I got from Mimi (AGAIN) telling me that I have been accepted as an intern and if I were to be still interested, I would have to reply her e-mail. Nothing felt better than that day, I swear and this post begins with a thank you to Mimi Pie, who accepted me after much considerations for not being too much a "tin kosong" to Nuffnang. Because if you threw my CV into the shredder 6 months ago, this blog post wouldn't have even happened. So yes, 謝謝你. Time to pick up some Chinese, you're off to Hong Kong soon!

My first day at Nuffnang began at 8.30am, simply because I was there early but decided to grab breakfast at some nearby mamak first. I first met David, because he was the person who responded to my bell ringing and mistakenly remembered him as Dennis for the rest of the day until the blunder actually came out and I couldn't possibly forget him as David anymore. But no, I don't have a picture with David because...I couldn't catch him in time. He's forever just all around with his phone and powerbank. I think he needs to sit down and chill sometimes. David, if you're reading this, I hope you're at least seated.

This is Shahzeeq. He's the third person (the first being David as mentioned above and the second being Mimi because she handled the orientation of course) I met on my first day at Nuffnang and he was also the first person whom I held hands with in the company. The other person was Wendy Lim, you'll find out who that is later on. Don't get me wrong, I haven't cheated on Wai Kin but it was in fact a task, my very first one in Nuffnang; to do some yoga and calm myself down on a Monday. Or so I was told. Shah initiated the yoga session along with Rachel (whom I regretfully have no pictures with as well!) outside where every other staff could see and needless to say, the newbies were pretty much gullible right? Everything the seniors say, goes! Times with Shah has always been great actually. His vulgarities, his craziness and his inner child always rubs off on you and makes you smile; even through your toughest days. That is...until Shah sleeps on the couch with the soft toys. Then he just snores.

Here's a video of the "yoga" session we had in the office by Shah and Rachel, just in case anyone would like to see. Go ahead, I'm totally zen with it.

Yes that's me you see about 80% of the time, holding onto Shah and Wendy's hands going OHM.

And then there's Anne in the picture; on her MC day but still made it to the farewell lunch. *Cries* I've got to first give you a big, fat thank you, Anne Cheah because you've been nothing but an awesome senior comm exec to me. I always thought that my clumsiness around the office topped with an annoying sense asking things non-stop would cause terror to whoever would be in charge of me in the future but you became someone of a complete opposite to whom I have imagined in my mind. You were patient, you were jovial and most of all, you weren't scary. You weren't the devil who wore Prada (maybe the devil who wears Birkenstock!) nor were you the supervisor from hell. In fact you made screwing up such a great thing to do because you would teach me later on how never to do it wrong again. You've always been such an adorable person, Anne and I really, really hope that you would always be so damn cute. Don't listen to Joel...or the blog post he made of you. Lol.

Now everyone say hello to Darren Low, the guy that all girls would think are handsome and swoon over his somewhat "angmoh" voice or something. Okay, maybe I was one of those a while back, a time before I put in my CV where I came to the office to collect my merchandise but after working with Darren, it's just...meh Darren. It feels so natural to be mean to him in the office, everyone does it! But yes, I must say thank you loads, Darren, for fetching me here and there even when you don't have to attend the screening and for enduring hours of extra traffic after that to go home where the ninjas can't find apparently. You've taught me in the office to always just be prepared to lock my computer even if I'm just going to the loo and to know how nice it is to laugh it off with your colleagues whenever they pull a prank on you. It's priceless to bully you sometimes and other times, I do pity you. But hey, majority wins!

Then comes Sue Ann, the one from the Nuffnang department. Nothing beats coming to the office and seeing you seated either on the couch or at your seat; your back facing me and putting on make up sometimes. Because it reminds me that...I am not alone! Some days I would; just as we prank Darren, pity you too while you are being put on a joke. It is however still undeniable that it is STILL very funny to see your reactions, especially when it's switching your pictures to some evil looking Hello Kitty. It's priceless. With you there's a lesson, one where I wouldn't forget and that's...looking for bloggers endlessly. I always wondered, why were you still here when your job looks so tough and then I realized that you enjoy what you do, without a complaint, without a sigh and probably without really stressing out or jumping on a panicking frenzy. It's a lesson and it's a really good one to live with and I've got to say, ありがとう. I hope Google Translate did it right for me.

And last but not least on the team, there's Laura. I remember how I walked into the office on my first day thinking, "Oh crap I've seen her before. She's a blogger at some event I went to and I probably did something real stupid because I do it at every single event! Does she work here? Shit, shit, shit I'm going to die!" before I realized that you're a newcomer too and that...made me feel so much better. Being very honest here! I've got to thank you, actually, Laura because of how you were new too and how you wouldn't hesitate to teach me what you've learned in a much quicker pace than I have. I've also got to thank you for listening to me talk rubbish at random times, possibly to complain about the public transport as per usual. Your level of tolerance to crap is...Laura level. No kidding.

Thanks as a whole, comm relations team. I never thought I could have been a part of such a hilariously noisy, outrageously playful and crazily hardworking team. I'll come back to Nuffnang with cookies or cakes some day, but then Shah would judge me and say he could make it so...maybe I'll come empty handed or with Starbucks coffee if I'm feeling rich. No promises. You guys have been great. My best experience with all of you has GOT to be the Nuffnang's 6th Birthday Bash. THAT, is a serious achievement for me and THAT would be something I would always keep in my mind. All that packing, really.

Aha Lydia! The Penang girl who goes all over the country then comes back and works like mad and goes out on weekends again. My confession: I love standing next to you because it's the only time I can feel tall...but it's also the time I feel damn fat so it's pretty much a mixed feeling. You and I are pretty similar at some points, I suppose; especially in times when I could find your style what I would make into mine...if I had the moolah and the heart to switch my whole wardrobe off anyway. I love how you would stand my ridiculous attitude in talking to you about stupid stuff, or complaining about silly things. I promised you coffee some day, and I'll work on that promise...when you stop going outstation! Stay cute, Lydia. It's my consolation!

I have to admit, Wendy, you didn't start off an easy buddy. You're the other Penang-ite, the one forever talking to Lydia and I wondered if you were ever working because you were always talking! *Glares* But you later on became someone so nice to bully, someone extremely hilarious to speak to and someone who is unafraid of being loud in the office; especially in my two weeks as an admin intern. It was really eye opening and I've got to admit, very heart warming to hear your laughs in the office. Thanks for being as new as I have been (and for holding my hand while we were doing "yoga" and handling my sweaty palms like a pro) and for picking up my calls ALWAYS when I transfer the line over from the comm relations department. It's always "Hello, who's this?" "Wendy." "Oh hi Wendy it's Elie!" and somehow, that's really nice to know...someone's picking up my phone calls! *Cue the happy forever alone meme*

Oh and this is Willy. Tey, not Wonka. He's constantly just walking around with his laptop wide open and leaving behind his phone, running up and down between offices because...he's Willy. Just like David, I wish he would sit down and quit moving around because in Willy, I think lies a worm. Some hardworking worm to keep him always on his feet and never on his butt. Except when he's out to a movie screening with his girlfriend and that too, he would...forget his premiere tickets. Sigh, Willy. I think it's safe to say I'm closest to you out of all the sales people (I'M SORRY, SALES PEOPLE!) simply because you're just always around Stickman's Hideout. Always stressed out, always panicking and always working to your death. You've got to chill someday, Willy but until your chilling moment, stay being Willy. You're pretty awesome that way. That is until you panic again then yes, do chill. Oh how I miss walking into the office and saying "Hello, Willy Wonka" to you.

Meet Rina, the person who holds the key to my money! I kid, she is much more than that. I think she's like some superwoman in the office, forever making things work and yet she still has time to chill out and move around. She's the personal assistant, the money woman, the shift lady, the intern mummy and then in the end, she's Rina the buddy. In all honesty, Rina, I started out having a fear of you. I'm not sure if it's because you're the PA to Boss Tim or it's because you sat at the far end of the admin table, making it seem like you're the biggest of the admin people but I've always been scared to approach you and to talk to you. That is, until I came up to the orange office and became a two-week admin intern and realized you're no Godzilla after all! I miss being around your mellow voice, Rina. It's always nice to hear you laugh and say, "Elie" because you put such a nice ring to it. It's like a music tone with my name slotted in. Thank you, Rina, for being such an awesome "penjaga intern". And thank you...for giving me my money la I'm always broke for unknown reasons. You're awesome that way also!

Last but not least, of course it's Ashley cheese. Possibly the only person who would ever be able to handle me scream out her nickname from one end to another asking her for lunch and going up to the orange office to work together. Our best memory together is...the shredder. Oh how the shredder has screwed up made our lives much more joyful! Our innovations, our skills and all the horrors followed by laughs all from one little machine. It's unbelievable that I've never known you before this, Cheese. I wish I did because you're a hell of a funny buddy and now that I know you, stay cheesy. You're really awesome in being you, Ashley. Don't change it. Thanks for learning with me and for sorting out tickets with me through all the confusion and terrible arrangements. We make a pretty darning team of interns, don't we?

To all the other people of Nuffnang, Churp Churp and Netccentric, you have not been forgotten but I have simply just been too shy on my last day to take pictures with everyone. Thanks especially to Antony for planning the whole farewell lunch at Namoo, Publika. It was such an amazing effort and it's possibly the best thing I've had to being in a party held (close enough) for me. I've never felt so...so...important. All you Nuffies have been such a part in me for 3 months, making everyday work such a joy and non work-like at all. You see? So it's been a month since I've left the company and everything's still fresh in my mind!

Here's a fan girl dream picture that was finally achieved on my last day of being at Nuffnang; me with Boss Tim and Audrey. I'm still sorry about the Fatty & Fatty joke, Audrey. *Hides in a corner*

And here's to hoping my internship reports gets me that A grade to bring my CGPA back to live. It's currently dying, fyi.

But I regret nothing, being in Nuffnang with all these amazing people. Thank you all, for my Nuffnang days.

  7. After going through your posts tens of times I hope I don't come accross to be a super scary creeper stalker. But I am desperate to know if nuffnang hk has closed or what it has become and if it has what other options there are? I used to be a nuffnang hk user until I got frustrated with getting no ads, when I finally get some ads it is like the company disappeared. Would you know anything about nuffnang hk?

    1. Hi there Chicicho chichicho! No worries, I'm sure you went through it because you were eager for an answer. Unfortunately, I am not entirely sure on this matter. Perhaps it is best for you to ask Nuffnang via a ticket at http://www.nuffnang.com.my/help

I sure hope this could help you out and best of luck in coming back to Nuffnang! :)
